What is botox and injectables?
Facial aging has two parts that are treated differently. One is expression lines, which form when you move your face: frown lines, horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet. Botulinum toxin type A, widely known as Botox, treats lines caused by muscle movement. By temporarily and selectively relaxing the muscles responsible, the skin stops creasing and lines soften. Fillers work differently: they do not act on muscle, they add volume. The most widely used is hyaluronic acid, a substance the body recognizes and gradually absorbs. It restores volume in the cheeks, folds, lips and chin, or refines facial contours. Biostimulators are another family of injectables that encourage your own collagen production over time.
Often the best result combines both: toxin for the upper face and fillers for the mid and lower face.
Who is it for?
Injectables suit people who want to soften lines or restore volume without surgery or lengthy downtime. They can also maintain or complement the results of facial surgery, and they are often a first step for people who are not ready for surgery but want to see a difference. Because most people resume normal activities right away, they fit easily into a short trip to Mexico City.
They have limits: they do not correct significant sagging or excess skin, and the effect is temporary.
