Body contouring · CDMX
Firmer, more defined arms, so you can move freely and wear what you love.
An arm lift (brachioplasty) removes excess skin and fat from the inner upper arm to reduce its circumference and create a firmer contour. In Mexico City, it is often sought after major weight loss.

Is it for me?
An arm lift, known medically as brachioplasty, is a body contouring procedure that removes loose skin from the inner upper arm (often called “bat wings”) and reduces the arm's overall circumference.
Sagging upper arms are tricky because two things are going on: fat and skin. When the skin still has good tone and there is only minimal sagging, liposuction alone can sometimes reduce the fat. When there is a lot of excess skin or significant laxity, surgery is the only way to remove it.
In a brachioplasty, incisions are placed in the natural crease of the armpit and along the inner arm, running from the armpit toward the elbow. Through them, excess skin and fat are removed, and the wound is closed with buried (subcuticular) sutures and aesthetic closure techniques. The scar sits on the inner arm, where it is less visible with your arms at your sides, though it can show when you raise them. That trade-off is worth discussing with your surgeon before you decide.
An arm lift is typically recommended for people who have lost a lot of weight, whether through diet, exercise, or bariatric surgery, and for anyone whose upper-arm skin has loosened with age and does not respond to exercise. It can be combined with other contouring procedures such as a thigh lift or tummy tuck.
Results tend to be good and long-lasting both in younger patients with fat deposits and good skin tone and in older patients. If your concern is mostly fat and your skin is firm, your surgeon may suggest liposuction alone.
Before deciding, it is worth weighing whether the scar bothers you more than the current loose skin. For many people who have lost a lot of weight, the change in how clothes fit outweighs the scar, but it is a personal decision. Planning for a few months of compression garment use is part of that choice.
Recovery
Swelling and tightness are normal. Keeping your arms slightly elevated helps reduce swelling.
The initial recovery period usually lasts seven to ten days.
A special compression garment for the arms is usually recommended for a few months to control swelling and help the result settle.
The scar matures over time, gradually fading and softening.
Common questions
A brachioplasty takes 2 to 3 hours. It is done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. You can go home the same day or after one night in the hospital.

Results tend to be good and long-lasting as long as your weight stays stable. That is why your weight should be stable for several months before surgery.
Possible complications include persistent arm swelling and, in some cases, lymphedema, as well as a widened or keloid scar. Injury to skin nerves can cause numbness, and infection, hematoma, fluid buildup, or asymmetry between the arms can also occur.
Pricing depends on your case and is confirmed at your consultation. Your surgeon assesses the amount of skin and fat and decides whether you need a brachioplasty, liposuction, or both.
It depends on how your recovery goes and on the follow-up visits your surgeon schedules. The timing is defined with you at your consultation, so you can plan your trip around it.
