What is facial contouring?
Some people, even at a healthy weight, carry fat under the chin, along the jaw or in the lower cheeks. This fat tends to resist diet and exercise, making the face look rounder and blurring the angle between the jaw and neck. Facial contouring, also called facial liposuction or double chin liposuction, targets exactly those areas.

Unwanted fat is removed through very thin cannulas connected to gentle suction, inserted through small, discreet incisions such as under the chin or behind the ears. It can be done on its own or combined with a facelift, chin surgery or other facial procedures.
Buccal fat removal, which reduces the fat pads in the cheeks through incisions inside the mouth, also falls under facial contouring. Your surgeon will recommend which option, or which combination, suits your face.
The fat cells removed do not grow back in the same area, so the new contour lasts as long as your weight stays stable, although remaining fat can still expand with significant weight gain. Results appear gradually: swelling subsides first, then the skin finishes adapting to the new contour, which can take several weeks.

The best candidates have excess fat under the chin and along the jaw, good skin elasticity and minimal or no visible neck bands (platysmal bands).
