What is breast lift?
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes and time all stretch the skin of the breasts. The result is sagging (breast ptosis), with the nipple pointing downward or sitting below the breast fold. A breast lift corrects this by removing extra skin, reshaping the breast tissue and moving the nipple and areola to a higher position.

The incision pattern depends on how much the breasts have dropped. It may go only around the areola, add a vertical line down to the fold, or, in more advanced cases, also include an incision along the crease under the breast. Your surgeon will explain which pattern you need and where the scars will be.
Beyond raising the breast, a lift can shrink areolas that have stretched and improve symmetry between the two sides. The breast tissue itself is reshaped to create a firmer, more lifted contour, so the result does not rely on the skin alone. If your breasts are very large, your surgeon may suggest a breast reduction instead, which also lifts the breast but removes more tissue. Your consultation will clarify which option matches your anatomy and goals.
A lift on its own does not add volume. If you want fuller breasts as well, an implant can be placed during the same surgery. Scars take several months, and sometimes a year, to mature, and results can change with future pregnancies, weight shifts, aging and gravity.
Who is it for?
Women usually consider a breast lift when their breasts have dropped or lost shape after pregnancy, breastfeeding or significant weight loss, when the areolas have stretched or point downward, or when one breast sits lower than the other.
If you plan to get pregnant in the near future, bring it up at your consultation: a future pregnancy can change breast shape again. The same goes for planned weight loss, which is best completed before surgery.
