What is vaginal rejuvenation?

Aging affects the genital area too. Along with changes in how fat and tissue are distributed, and with pregnancy and childbirth, it can lead to discomfort, functional issues — such as mild urinary leakage or discomfort during intercourse — and cosmetic changes inside or outside.

“Vaginal rejuvenation” is not a single surgery but a set of options chosen according to what bothers you: reducing or reshaping the inner or outer labia, slimming the mons pubis, tightening the vaginal canal or improving pelvic floor tone. Some are surgical and others are done in the office without surgery, and they can be combined.

These procedures involve a sensitive, personal area, so your consultation starts with a conversation about your symptoms and expectations. In some cases a gynecological exam beforehand is a good idea to rule out other causes of your symptoms.

Surgical procedures such as labiaplasty or vaginoplasty are usually done on an outpatient basis under regional anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Non-surgical treatments are performed in the office over several sessions and don’t require time off. Advances in technology make it possible to improve many symptoms and aspects of the area without surgery or alongside it; your consultation in Mexico City determines which combination makes sense for you. Because follow-up matters, it is worth planning your stay so you can attend the post-op visits your surgeon recommends.

Who is it for?

These options may be worth considering if the size of your labia causes discomfort in clothing, during exercise or during sex, if you notice a looser vaginal canal after childbirth, if you leak small amounts of urine when you cough or strain, or if you are unhappy with how the area looks.

Above all, the decision should be yours, based on your own concerns and goals, with clear information about what each procedure can and cannot do.

You may be a candidate if…

  • You are an adult in good overall health.
  • You have physical, functional or cosmetic concerns about the intimate area that you want to address.
  • You have no active genital infections.
  • You are not planning a pregnancy soon, especially if you are considering vaginoplasty.
  • You don’t smoke, or you are willing to quit before and after surgery.
  • You have realistic expectations about what each procedure can achieve.

Mons pubis liposuction

Mons pubis contouring adjusts the amount of fat in the area above the pubic bone. Most often fat is removed when the area looks full or bulging, but in some cases volume can be added with your own fat.

It is usually done with thin cannulas through small incisions and can be combined with abdominal or other intimate-area procedures.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty reduces or reshapes the inner labia (labia minora) and, when needed, the outer labia (labia majora). Women seek it when size or asymmetry causes discomfort in clothing, during exercise or during sex, or for cosmetic reasons.

There are several techniques; your surgeon will explain which one suits your case and where the scars will be, which are usually placed in discreet areas.

Vaginoplasty (vaginal tightening)

After one or more vaginal deliveries, the vaginal canal can become wider and the supporting muscles and tissues looser. This can cause a feeling of laxity or discomfort.

Vaginoplasty narrows the canal and reinforces the supporting tissues. It is generally recommended once you are no longer planning pregnancies.

G-Shot

The G-Shot involves injecting a filler into a specific area of the front vaginal wall with the aim of increasing its volume and sensitivity.

It is a relatively new treatment and scientific evidence on its effects is still limited; results vary from person to person and are not permanent. Your consultation will cover whether it is a reasonable option for you.

Non-surgical pelvic floor toning

The pelvic floor muscles support the bladder, uterus and rectum and play a role in bladder control and sexual function. Aging, a sedentary lifestyle and pregnancy can weaken them.

Non-surgical treatments that use technology to stimulate these muscles to contract can help improve their tone and symptoms such as mild urinary incontinence. They can be used on their own or alongside a surgical procedure.
